Most phonics programs just teach kids to memorize lists of sight words or to associate word-sounds with pictures. This approach does not give kids the skills and true freedom needed to sound out words and read!

Phonics Building Blocks achieves these results by using actual digitized (recorded) sound blocks and word samples rather then synthesized “MacinTalk” or “Speech Manager”. For this reason there are no limitations to the program. The phonic quality and authenticity will be as good as the teacher’s or parent’s ability to pronounce and record words.
Most programs that use digitized sound are limited to the size and samples included with the program and do not allow for expandability and adaptation. For this reason, using digitized sound (real human speech) can seem unpractical. Children often quickly out grow and tire of these programs and their lack of expandability and adaptability nullify their pedagogical effectiveness. “Phonics Building Blocks” works around this challenge by incorporating speedy database technology. This technology allows users to store virtually an unlimited amount of recorded word-sounds out side of the program in a database file. This enables the program to be totally open ended and resource efficient. The program’s disk size will never grow more then its original 670K nor will it require much more then 2 Meg of Ram. The database pulls in the words instantly and gives you a seamless, uninterrupted flow of human speech!. For this reason, “Phonic Building Blocks” can be used to teach any language. “Phonics Building Blocks” requires Apples “Sound Manager”, which can be downloaded free on AOL's Macintosh System’s Forum. It also requires a Macintosh with sound recording capabilities. This will exclude Mac Classics and Pluses, unless you have already purchased third party recording software.
